Mozambique will host its first Africa-United States Business Summit in June of next year, bringing together about 2,000 North American and African entrepreneurs.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the President of the Executive Council of the Corporate Council on Africa, Florizelee Liser, after a meeting with President Nyusi, whom she thanked for agreeing to host the event.
Florizelee told reporters that two key issues weighed heavily in the choice of Mozambique to host the summit.
“The first thing to say is that there were two countries that applied for the event, but President Nyusi has been very active in the events organized by Corporate Council on Africa, having participated in our summit in 2017, which took place in the United States of America, where he was the keynote speaker, and again in January this year in Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, participated with six more Heads of State and was also the keynote speaker. We also have a very good relationship with the US-accredited ambassador, Carlos dos Santos, but also because of the dynamism of relations between the United States and Mozambique,” she said.
Liser hopes the event will serve to facilitate trade agreements between businessmen.
“One of the results we expect, as will the presidents of boards of directors and executives of large companies in the United States and Africa, is that they can interact with each other and also with Mozambican entrepreneurs. This already offers many opportunities. But we also know that two large US companies are already in Mozambique and have helped in the discovery of important natural gas resources – Anadarko and Exxon Mobil. Therefore, this is an aspect that offers a great opportunity to do business here in Mozambique.”
Shortly after Liser’s statement, the Council of Ministers announced that, among other issues, it had approved the decree-law approving the property registration code.
