Mozambique: Cahora Bassa drives higher electricity output in H1
Mozambique’s main power utility, (EDM) says it suffered a loss of $57,600 in 2017 due to theft, and vandalism of transmission equipment in the north of the country. The acts, according to EDM transmission director of the northern zone, Felizberto Uissitomo, were more frequent in 2017, with a negative impact on the normal energy supply to the communities.
Uissitomo is quoted by state controlled Radio Mozambique on Thursday as saying actions are ongoing to eliminate these acts of vandalism that damage the public good, because it is the duty of all to protect the infrastructure that serves the communities.
“We call on people to be more vigilant in their communities, to protect these infrastructures against the thugs and thieves of electrical equipment,” Uissitomo said, explaining that complaints could be filed at police stations and agencies of the power utility.
EDM is currently installing transformers in the northern part of the country to improve the supply of electricity to the northern part of Mozambique.
