From Friday until Monday next week, Maputo is hosting the fourth International Tourism Fair, a platform for which aims to promote the Mozambique’s tourism potential and place it among the world’s preferred destinations.
Called “Descobrir Moçambique” (Discovering Mozambique), the fair is organized by the Mozambican government through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Tourism Institute (INATUR) in partnership with the private sector, and is intended also to promote national arts and culture and cuisine.
The event will feature the participation of 150 national and foreign exhibitors, 14 hotels, 40 travel agents, two neighbouring countries (South Africa and Swaziland), and several tour operators.
National Director of Tourism Eduardo Zuber says: “This event is the materialization of the Strategic Plan for Tourism Development, which aims to promote the country’s image through tourism. We intend to further strategic plan objectives and promote the image of the country and domestic tourism, which are important factors of development.”
INATUR Director-General Albino Mahumana added that, more than simply promoting the potential of the country, the fair would be a business platform and an opportunity for interaction between agents and professionals in culture and tourism.
“The Government has defined tourism as the fourth most-important area for boosting socio-economic development in Mozambique, and this fair is one of the ways of promoting the image of the country and securing investment aimed at achieving this goal,” he said.
