Mozambique: LAM's return to European airspace budgeted at $2 million per month
The Mozambican National Immigration Service (Senami) has raised US$2.3 million (1.8 million Euros) since the beginning of the year from the issuing of border visas, a spokeswoman has revealed.
In total, 46,634 foreign nationals have entered the country since the beginning of the year, requiring entry visas at borders instead of applying in their country of origin, as against 38,109 who did so in 2016 in the same period.
The difference represents an increase of 23 percent, Cira Fernandes told a press conference in Maputo.
“The reduction of the rate charged and the setting [of the price] at US$50 are among the main causes of increased entry of foreign nationals with border visas,” she said.
The majority of travellers entering Mozambique using border visas since the beginning of the year have come from the United States, England and Canada.
Maputo, Inhambane and Cabo Delgado provinces granted most of the entry visas in this period, with 82 percent of the total number.
