Mozambique: Lightning strikes kill seven in Sofala
Stock / In the early hours of Saturday last week, a Mozambican national was found stabbed to death next to the tavern where he had been drinking in Ivory Park, Extension 07, Tembisa, Gauteng
The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has thanked the local community, whose help led to the speedy arrest of a suspect for the murder of a 40-year-old man on Saturday last week.
In the early hours of Saturday last week, a Mozambican national was found stabbed to death next to the tavern where he had been drinking in Ivory Park, Extension 07.
Brigadier Ngcobo visited the scene immediately after the incident and used this interaction with the community to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
“Indeed, later during the day the police, with the help of the community, managed to establish the identity of the people allegedly seen stabbing the deceased. This apparently happened after a scuffle, the details of which are not known at this stage,” said the Ivory Park SAPS Communication Officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane.
Capt. Matimulane said a 28-year-old man was arrested the same afternoon, and was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
“The search for the second suspect is underway. We have often said that the community can play an important role in assisting us in fighting the crime scourge in Ivory Park,” added Capt. Matimulane.
Brigadier Ngcobo further called on other community members from elsewhere in Ivory Park to assist with information regarding two other, separate murders, during which two males were fatally shot during house robberies this past weekend.
