Mozambican Foreign Affairs Minister Oldemiro Baloi will represent President Filipe Nyusi at the 37th summit of the heads of state and government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) set for this week in South Africa’s political capital Pretoria, the presidency announced on Monday.In a statement, the presidency said Balói would attend the summit on behalf of Nyusi.
The SADC Summit is set for 19-20 August and is expected to be attended by leaders of the 15 member states.
A number of meetings are expected to precede the summit, including the Council of Ministers that is set for Tuesday and Wednesday as well as a meeting of the security troika of the regional grouping.
The 37th SADC Ordinary Summit takes place a few days before Angola holds general elections on August 23.
The elections would see long-serving President Jose Eduardo dos Santos stepping down after 37 years as president.
He is expected to deliver a farewell speech during the summit.
