The Mozambican economist and former official of the International Monetary Fund, António Franco, believes that the Mozambican economy could grow an average of 6 to 7 percent a year over the next ten years.
António Franco said that growth would be fuelled by the commercialization of gas from the Rovuma Basin in Cabo Delgado and Palma in the province of Inhambane.
The Mozambican economist was speaking on Thursday at the School of Economics and Management at the opening of the academic year on the theme of Mozambique’s impressive transformation, promising future and critical challenges.
Franco highlighted the need to apply part of the revenues from hydrocarbons to renewable resources, and said that, for the recovery of the national economy in the short term, it was vital that the government apply the resources in key sectors.
