More than 165,000 tourists stayed at Maputo hotels in the first half of this year, an increase of 11 percent over last year.
The country’s capital has profited by more than one billion meticais from the trade, Director of Culture and Tourism in the country’s capital, Rafael Funzana, said in Maputo on Wednesday.
Funzana added that the number of tourists and revenues could increase with the forthcoming launch of the Mozambican Adviser project, which aims to promote domestic tourism.
Funzana told Radio Mozambique on World Tourism Day (today) that the government had accepted the challenge of promoting and diversifying tourism. World Tourism Day is celebrated this year under the motto ‘Sustainable tourism – a tool for development and poverty eradication’.
