Mozambique: Fisheries sector concerned about plastic waste in sea

The police commander in Mandlakazi, the director of the Criminal Investigation Service and two police officers are being held on suspicion of involvement in the disappearance of two elephant tusks.
Last Wednesday, after a tip-off, the death of an elephant was confirmed at the administrative post of Macuácua, Mandlakazi district, and teams from the Provincial Directorate of Land, Environment and Rural Development in Gaza were dispatched to investigate the case.
The elephant tusks collected by the team were left with the police district command for safekeeping overnight, but the next day, the two tusks, weighing about 22 kilograms in all, were no longer there.
Investigations into the disappearance of the tusks resulted in the arrested of two police officers, and yesterday the police district commander and the director of the Criminal Investigation Service were also arrested on suspicion of involvement.
A source close to the Mandlakazi district government contacted by our newspaper said that “the district commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Mandlakazi was arrested” along with the district director of the former PIC.
