Búzi-Guara-Guara ferry service interrupted in Central Mozambique
Two persons died as a result of a boat sinking on Saturday, more than two thousand hectares of corn lost and four access routes cut form the preliminary balance of flood damage following the overflow of the Limpopo River in the Chibuto district of Gaza.
The boat sinking wreck occurred when nine people attempted to get to Chibuto from the village of Massuco in a rowboat.
Manuel Machaieie, spokesperson for the INGC natural disaster task team, says that 36 families in Mundiane village in Chibuto need to be evacuated to safe areas because of the high risk of their homes flooding.
Machaieie says that water flow is overall tending to stabilize, except at the Sikhakati hydrometric station in Chibuto, where it is still rising.
Chibuto district administrator Brígida Matavele has renewed her appeal to people not to attempt to cross the river so as to avoid further casualties, with the INGC echoing her call for caution.Source: Diário de Moçambique
