The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) is forecasting heavy rains with thunderstorms and gusty winds in the centre and north of the country from Tuesday evening on, and recommends that precautionary measures should be taken.
In the north of the country, areas identified as at risk are: Malema, Lalaua and Ribáué, in Nampula province, as well as Mecanhelas, Cuamba, Metarica, Maua, Mandimba, Ngauma, Lago, Sanga, Mavago, Muembe and Lichinga city in Niassa. In Cabo Delgado, Palma, Mocímboa da Praia, Macomia, Nangade, Quissanga, Pemba Metuge and Mecufi are named.
For the central region, INAM designates the districts of Buzi, Chibabava and Machanga, in Sofala province as risk areas, while in Manica, storms will affect Mossurize, Sussundenga, Manica, Báruè, Machaze and Guro.
In Zambezia, the districts of Morrumbala, Milange, Mocuba, Gurué and High Molocué will be affected, and in Tete, Macomia, Nangade, Quissanga, Pemba Metuge e Mecufi.
INAM is also warning of periods of heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty wind today in districts along the Zambezi Valley.
