Zimbabwe, Mozambique agree to refurbish and extend railway line
Twenty-four hours after the publication of orders for luxury cars worth 118 million meticais, the government has called the press to explain that 39 of the 45 cars were acquired in 2015.
This year, the government is buying just six cars, at a cost of 29 million meticais, for former top state officials. The list includes a Mercedes-Benz S400 and a Toyota Land Cruiser 200, each costing about 11 million meticais. The other four vehicles are Hyundai Accents, costing about 2 million meticais each.
Asked if it was not possible to postpone the purchase of the six cars in order to meet current priorities, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Domingo Lambo, said the government would not change its plans
The Ministry of Economy and Finance would not reveal the names of former leaders who would be receiving the luxury vehicles, referring the media to the Former State Leaders office.
