The Mozambican Ministry of Transport and Communications is looking for a partner to build and operate five aerodromes for tourism purposes in different parts of the country, according to an announcement in Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias.
“The purpose of this tender is to select a partner” for the design, construction, operation and development of aerodromes in Ponta do Ouro, Bilene, Inhambane, Angoche and Lumbo, the latter on the Island of Mozambique.”
The announcement said that any expressions of interest have to be submitted to the Ministry by 19 March.
The Ministry announced in 2016 it was looking for companies or investors interested in acquiring the concession rights for the design, construction, operation and delivery of four aerodromes in Inhambane, Bilene, Lumbo and Ponta do Ouro, all of which are tourist areas of the country.
The document, which was accompanied by the terms of reference, said that the Mozambican planned to use the locations of these aerodromes as a “lever” to boost tourism development in the Maputo-South, Gaza, Inhambane and Nampula areas, and are one of the pillars for accelerated development included in the Government’s 2015-2019 Five Year Plan.
Expressions of interest at the time were due by 12 August.
