The government of India yesterday said that it considered cooperation with Mozambique a priority, noting the potential for expansion and diversification of the African economy as an important driver in bilateral relations.
“We are encouraging our companies to look at Mozambique, relying not on the present economic reality, but on its vast untapped potential,” said Maputo High Commissioner Rudra Gaurav Shresth on Indian Independence Day in Maputo on Wednesday.
Mozambique’s potential for expansion and economic diversification, he continued, offered plentiful scope for progression in bilateral relations, Shresth said.
“The potential for economic expansion and diversification in Mozambique has now become even greater, thanks to President Nyusi’s success in achieving peace, stability and political inclusion in the country,” he said.
India, he continued, had opened its vast market to exports from Mozambique, resulting in a 60 percent increase to US$1.3 billion in 2017.
The Indian High Commissioner to Mozambique added that the partnership between the two countries included major infrastructure projects such as roads, energy, housing, water supply, as well as health and education.
