The Mozambique Museum of Communications is still in the planning stage and is intended to contain pieces which bear testimony to all communications, from the pigeon to the generation of mobile phones that characterize the modern era of communications.
Objectively, the museum intends to provide a cultural meeting on communications in the country, projecting a vision of the past, present and future; disseminate the role and importance of communications; bring historical developments and new technologies in the communications sector, as well as their contribution to the economic development of the country; promote the dissemination of new technologies associated with the communications sector as a support for the promotion and knowledge of historical heritage, which contributes to the development of the information society; and contribute to youth education with the emphasis on the scientific and technological dimension of the communications area. It is also expected that the Mozambican Communications Museum will feature in the tourist route in the country’s capital.
The memorandum of understanding creating conditions for the implementation of the Communications Museum was signed yesterday by senior representatives of several public institutions in the communications area, including the chairmen of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Communications of Mozambique (INCM), the Correios de Moçambique (Post Offices), Mozambique Television (TVM), Mozambique Telecommunications (TDM), Radio Mozambique and Sociedade do Notícias. The Eduardo Mondlane University and the Order of Engineers of Mozambique are also involved in the project, among others.
The launch of the project was overseen by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita, who dubbed it “of great importance for culture, research and tourism”.
