The Mozambican government yesterday approved a Regime of Work Contracts regulation that will govern labour relations between civil construction contractors and the like and their workforces, adopted during the 41st Council of Ministers session, held this Tuesday in Maputo.
According to Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Vitória Diogo, cited by AIM, the regulation establishes, among other innovations, that the free conclusion of a contract for an uncertain period will be considered as an employment contract for an indefinite period.
“The contract for an uncertain period allows the contractual relationship established between the contractor and the worker to terminate, either during the execution stages of the work or at the time of termination, which legally releases the contractor from paying compensation,” the minister explained.
Diogo said that the regulation spells out the responsibility of the main contractor in situations where there are several companies that are subcontracted to perform a work, addressing a major concern in the private sector.
