Mozambique sailor Deizy Nhaquile: "I wanna thank me for being this strong Woman-Girl"
Beira Municipal Council is spending more than 94 million meticais on the construction of a soccer stadium in Mananga, Munhava administrative post. The project includes shops and offices, a fuel station and a car park.
The laying of the first stone was carried out on Sunday morning by Mayor Daviz Simango, who has been working on the project since the first term in 2003.
To be built by Construtora João Sarmento, the stadium will have a natural grass pitch and two stands with the capacity to house eight thousand spectators, one open and one shaded.
According to Daviz Simango, the project will be implemented in a phased manner, due to the “meagre” funds. “First we’ll lay the pitch and put in the lights and the benches for three thousand people. The commercial part should be ready within one year,” he said.
“We want this stadium to be equipped with space for shops, gas stations and banks so that the income from them covers maintenance,” he added.
Daviz’s project also contemplates two football fields in Maraza, where the rainwater retention tank is being built.
“We want to build for recreational football, so that the periodic and permanent games occur without problems. We do not want there to be any damage in terms of the field.”
“We will reassess access routes, because we can’t have only Kruss Gomes Street as the main route for safety reasons, in cases of emergency. We want to have the municipal stadium ready by August 20 of next year,” he said.
At a well-attended public meeting, the mayor asked the public to be vigilant during ongoing works and prevent people of bad faith stealing construction material from the site, which, he said, was being executed to serve the residents and clubs that needed fields for various championships.
“We want to build this field quickly, so we ask the population to be the protector, because this field belongs to the people. What we are doing is giving back your five hundred contribution from the public treasury. We are trying to build sports infrastructure to attract and promote talent in our city. With the stadium, we want to enrich and promote our city,” the mayor said.
Regarding the delay in the execution of the project, Simango said: “It is true; it took time for the construction work to start. The money we had reserved for the project was used for coastal protection works because we had problems with erosion but, had we not addressed those problems, the pitch would be swallowed up by the sea. Now the coast is protected and we can move forward. “
The owner of Construtora João Sarmento responded to the mayor’s call to meet the deadline by guaranteeing that his company would deliver within the projected framework. “Mr President, you chose a good contractor, People will be pleased with the quality of the work in the end. Everything I say is true, I am a man of God,” he said.
