The Political Commission of Frelimo, ruling party in Mozambique, has announced that it is currently preparing an extraordinary session of the Central Committee for May 26 and 27.
The Central Committee extraordinary session is to be part of “the preparation of the 11th Frelimo congress, to be held from September 26 to October 1,” in the city of Matola, near Maputo, according to a statement released by the Political Commission.
That body met on Thursday and encouraged the party leader and President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, to continue the efforts to promote “an effective and lasting peace in the country,” the final communiqué reads.
The party also called on the government to “continue with the adoption of public policies and strategies that will boost accelerated economic growth and give Mozambicans welfare and prosperity.”
The Frelimo congress scheduled for September precedes an electoral cycle in Mozambique that includes voting for municipalities in 2018 and presidential and parliamentary elections in 2019.
