Mozambique: PGR warns of disorderly construction in Maputo endangering the environment

Frelimo president Filipe Nyusi yesterday laid the foundation stone for the new Matola Central School meeting pavilion, in preparation for the XI Congress due to take place there in September.
The new pavilion for the Frelimo party sessions will be 3,066 square metres in area, 666 more than the previous building, which was damaged by the gales which struck the southern part of the country about a month ago.
According to a presentation at the time, the pavilion will have a room for the president of the party, with a suite; rooms for honorary presidents, also with suites, and others for the press, the secretariat and two exclusively for meetings. The benches, which were previously wooden, are now to be concrete.
Work is expected to be finished in three months.
The construction of the pavilion is exclusively funded by contributions from members and supporters of Frelimo, in what party calls a case of “leadership by example”.
