Four people from the same family were killed when a 23-year-old man set fire to a house over a debt of less than 50 meticais (around US$0.7) in Gaza province in southern Mozambique.
According to police spokesman Inacio Dina, the incident occurred hours after the owner of the house, a 43-year-old man, had an argument with the young man, who was later arrested in a catering establishment.
Three children and their mother died in the fire, and the father is in hospital.
“An argument over less than 50 meticais has led to the deaths of four innocent individuals,” the PRM spokesman said, adding that the accused had been detained.
