Mozambique: Desperate families dig for food in Mozambique drought
The Mozambican police in Tete have detained an individual suspected of involvement in the theft of fuel that caused the tragedy in Caphiridzange last Thursday which has already killed 88 people.
“He is one of the significant individuals in the process. As a matter of fact, he even had a residence in that area (in the locality of Caphiridzange) that he used purely to facilitate these purchases or even theft of fuel operations,” the police commander in the province told Tete TVM.
The commander acknowledged the persistence over several years of the theft and illegal sale of fuel in that part of central Mozambique, and said he believed further arrests would be made in the case.
That the driver of the fuel truck belonging to a company in Malawi is still at large, as is the driver of the Mozambican vehicle that participated in the prearranged theft of fuel on the day before the explosion.
