Mozambique: France places Cabo Delgado on its red map - AIM report
Police in Mozambique have detained a man for allegedly attempting to sell his son for 50,000 meticais [around US$836 at current exchange rates] in Caia district, Sofala province, last week.
The victim, R. L. José, is only two years old, and the 39-year-old father is a Mozambican by the name of L. J. Francisco, according to police General Command. He was caught trying to sell his son on April 24 in the administrative post of Sena. The buyer, 48-year-old A. José, is also Mozambican.
Attempts to obtain information about the mother and other relatives of the boy failed. The police provided no further details about the case, only saying it continued to investigate the circumstances in which the child was put up for sale and for what purpose.
Police in fact suspect that the buyer may have been just an intermediary.
