The European Union (EU) has made available EUR 39.5 million to support energy, citizenship and public finance management in Mozambique, a statement released today announces.
“Faced with these challenges, the three programmes adopted are crucial to achieving the strategic objectives of our partnership with Mozambique,” Neven Mimica, EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, is quoted in the statement as saying.
The support, provided through the 11th European Development Fund (EDF), is channelled through civil society organisations in these sectors, and is intended to ensure a dialogue between these players and government institutions.
“The goal is to promote democratic accountability by making the system more responsive and protective of citizens,” Mimica said.
The EU intends the support to reduce poverty through measures to promote participation and accountability in public finance management.
