South Africa has announced 24-hour opening of some of its border posts with neighbouring countries from 11 to 19 April to allow for increased Easter holiday traffic.
These include the crossings at Ressano Garcia with Mozambique, Beit Bridge with Zimbabwe and the Maseru Bridge between Lesotho and the Free State.
According to a source in the High Commission in Pretoria, the Mozambican side of the Ressano Garcia border crossing will be open round the clock from 12 to 19 April.
The South African Ministry of Internal Affairs will bolster services with an extra two hundred officials, including senior managers, and promises to ensure efficient service over Easter. In 2016, more than seven million people moved across borders in southern Africa during the period.
Thousands of Mozambican workers in the South African mining industry return home annually to celebrate Easter with their families, while the beaches of southern Mozambique attract thousands of South African tourists.
