Twitter / An AFP journalist saw burning debris fall from the facade of the Sulafa tower in Dubai Marina as the fire spread up at least 15 floors of the building
Civil defence teams in Dubai put out a fire at the 70-storey Sulafa Tower in Dubai Marina in two hours.
Director-General of Dubai Civil Defence, Major General Rashid Thani Rashid Al Matroushi, stated that no one was injured in the fire and that all residents were evacuated.
The fire did not cause major damage because it broke out at the corners of the residential building.
He added that the blaze, which is believed to have started on the 60th floor of the residential skyscraper, spread out to the eight floors above because of the wind.
Some fifty firefighters from five fire stations and rescuers from Dubai Police worked together to extinguish the fire, he noted.
The official added that the building’s built-in fire extinguishers were used in bringing the fire under control and minimising resulting damage.
