Visas for foreigners to invest or work in Mozambique are more expensive - A Verdade

China has donated 80 buses to Mozambique for public passenger transport services.
Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario confirmed this grant at a press conference in Macau on Wednesday marking the end of his participation in the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Commercial Cooperation between China and the Portuguese Speaking Counties (otherwise known as the Macau Forum).
“China has announced specific measures such as the grant of 80 buses”, said Rosario. “We shall make every effort to ensure that this offer arrives in Mozambique as quickly as possible. Since it’s a grant, this means that Mozambique does not need to spend foreign currency to obtain these resources”.
He added that part of an earlier Chinese promise of 10,000 tonnes of rice in emergency food aid has begun to arrive in the country.
As for the debt relief announced on Tuesday by Chinese Prime Minister Le Kequian, covering the cancellation of payment due on interest-free loans, Rosario said “we shall also work to ensure that we benefit from this good Chinese initiative”.
“Participation in this Forum was worthwhile”, he continued. “We exchanged information and ideas. China needs space to put its industries to feed its growth, and for its part Mozambique needs industries to transform its raw materials. This is one of the areas where synergies should be capitalized on”.
Speaking at a Forum session on Tuesday, Rosario stressed the role of the private business sector in development.
“The results achieved at the Macau Forum encourage us to continue focusing interventions on areas that contribute to the economic development of our countries, in which the active contribution of the business sector is crucial”.
He was sure that interaction between the business people of the countries involved will gain new impetus from the planned creation of the Federation of Business People of China and of the Portuguese Speaking Countries. The creation of this Federation is one of the measures announced by Li and s part of the Forum’s three year action plan.
For Rosario, the Forum is “a complementary mechanism in bilateral cooperation” which has helped consolidate governmental, business and commercial relations. It had helped introduce a new paradigm of cooperation centred on expanding “the productive capacity of our countries, which is in line with the vision of the Mozambican government for improving the living conditions of the population”.
Rosario invited businesses from China and from the Portuguese speaking countries to invest in Mozambique, taking advantage of its geographical location, which makes it a point of entry for the market of the Southern African Development Community
