The price of charcoal, currently around 950 meticais wholesale, may increase soon as a result of the increase in fuel prices recently announced by the government.
According to vendors, the cost of transporting charcoal from the production site to the point of sale is crucial to determining its retail price.
“With the increase in fuel prices things will have to change here too, because carriers will raise transport tariffs, making charcoal even more expensive,” said a saleswoman.
For housewives already reeling from the increase in gas prices, the increase in the price of the alternative is more bad news for the family budget.
“Living in Mozambique is increasingly expensive. Things go up every day – except our wages. And to make matters worse. at this time of the year! I can not imagine how are things going to look like at the end of year,” housewife Dona Marta complained.
