Members of the provincial government, civil society, politicians and former combatants of the National Liberation Struggle have gathered for a joint reflection on the outbreaks of violence in Cabo Delgado in the first official public debate on possible solutions to the terrorist attacks there.
Muslims in the area say they are living in fear of persecution because they are suspected of belonging to the terrorist group that has been involved in armed attacks since October 2017.
Muslim believers have resorted to the Koran and the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique to distance themselves from acts of terror committed by an armed group that has been carrying out attacks in the name of Islam.
Imam Nze Assuade says that the ideology of the supposed terrorists is completely out of character with the Islamic religion.
The provincial government considers the concern of local Muslims legitimate and has called for the support of the Islamic community in solving the problem.
