Three people died in a boat accident on the Revue River, district of Messica, in the central Mozambican province of Manica.
The boat, carrying four passengers on board, sank on Friday when it reached its destination for unknown reasons.
The spokesperson for the Mozambican Police in Manica, Mateus Mindú, explained that the sole survivor is the owner of the boat.
‘We are working to find out the real causes of the accident. It is possible that the accident was caused by bad weather that hit the province, ‘said Mindú.
He explained that one of the victims is an adolescent who also died with his mother.
‘They were travelling to the side of the river. We have already deployed rescue teams from the fluvial and lacustrine protection police force which are busy working to find out the real causes of the accident, ‘he said.
Currently, the authorities are also struggling to identify two of the victims and notify their relatives.
‘When it happened, two of the victims had no IDs. We are making efforts to locate the relatives of the mother and her son”, he said.
In an unrelated incident, Mindu said that one Chinese national died over the weekend during a traffic accident along the National Road Six (N6) in Gondola district. The deceased was sleeping inside his tent when he was killed.
‘A car got off the road and flipped over. The vehicle fell on top of the tent where the Chinese national was sleeping killing him instantly. ‘said Mindu.
