The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique, Oldemiro Baloi, will be in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa from 30 to 31 January for the 28th African Union (AU) Summit.
According to a press release sent to AIM, one of the highlights of the summit will be the election of AU Commission members.
After failing to elect the leadership of the continental organization at the Kigali Summit held in July 2016, a president, the deputy president, the eight commissioners and two judges for the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights are to be elected, the statement says.
Taking place under the banner “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investment in Youth”, the conference will also debate Morocco’s request to join the African Union and analyze the security situation on the African continent.
Other events include the Heads of State and Government meeting, the 26th Summit of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), a working meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization, the official launch of the African Centre for Disease Control and a meeting of the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/Aids.
