South Africa: Man goes missing across border on way to find father in Mozambique
Screen grab: Miramar
A 6-month-old baby boy has been abducted by an unknown woman in Maputo’s Baixa market, Miramar reports.
To achieve her end, the kidnapper promised the mother a job.
The despairing 21-year-old mother describes how, on Monday, she was selling biscuits in Malanga when a woman came up to her and said she needed a cleaning lady to work at her house in Jardim. They sat to talk it through, and the woman asked her if her baby wasn’t hungry and gave her 50 meticais to buy a yogurt.
On the way to the stall, she offered to hold the baby. The mother says they were walking together and there were cars everywhere, and then suddenly she couldn’t see the woman holding her baby anymore.
She says she had no way of knowing that the promise of employment would end in an abduction.
The father was at work when the child was kidnapped. Now all that remains at home are a few of the 6-month-old Helves’ belongings to remind the pair of their missing son.
