Stakeholders in the aviation industry from across Africa gathered in Kigali on Tuesday pledged to strengthen the airport collaborative decision-making (A-CDM) concept and processes, and support collaborations that are committed to improving the efficiency of global air transport. Airport collaborative decision-making as a concept is geared toward improving air traffic flow and capacity management (ATFCM) at airports, by reducing delays, improving the predictability of operations and optimising the utilisation of resources.
Apart from the limited collaborative decision-making among African airports, aviation experts gathered in Kigali also noticed that another challenge is that many existing African ground-handling companies are government-owned and managed.
Fuel shortages are also experienced in some African airports from time to time depending on the economic and security circumstances, aviation experts said.
The meeting of stakeholders in the aviation industry which is taking place in Kigali also aims at providing a unique platform for the continent’s aviation players –including handlers, airlines, airports and regulators – to work together on delivering a blueprint for sustainable growth, plus capitalise on extensive networking
opportunities, according to the organisers.
This year’s conference in Kigali is being held as part of a dedicated African Aviation Week, championing best practice, market liberalisation and world-class safety standards across the continent.
