A private plane with eight people on board, including the pilot, crashed on Tuesday morning on Bazaruto Island, Vilanculos district, Inhambane, without loss of life.
The accident occurred around 11:40 a.m. when the aircraft failed to climb on takeoff and crashed into the canopy of a small tree. Seven occupants were injured, three of whom needed further treatment and were evacuated to neighbouring South Africa.
A preliminary assessment by the National Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique suggests adverse weather conditions and overloading were the probable causes of the crash. A technical investigation team has already gone to the site to determine the facts of the case.
The aircraft was on a flight from Vilankulos to the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
