Mozambican Cashew Conference 2017–Inputs for Growth
TechnoServe and the Government of Mozambique’s National Cashew Institute (INCAJU) are hosting a conference entitled ‘Inputs for growth’ which will take place from December 7–8 at Hotel Avenida in Maputo.
The main objective of the conference is to convene relevant stakeholders and experts in order to develop a road map for the privatisation of the input market for seeds and chemicals that will inform and incentivise future investments and public policies in the Mozambican cashew industry.
The conference will explore topics such as cashew production trends and the urgent need for inputs, models and policies for development of input markets, and methods for financing.
The conference will also highlight the successes, challenges and overall lessons learned from the experience of implementing TechnoServe’s main cashew nut industry project, MozaCajú, which is a 4 year initiative funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and implemented in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF).
Since 2014, MozaCajú has been operating in the three northern provinces of Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Zambézia, in line with the Government of Mozambique’s efforts to reduce poverty. MozaCajú has supported the Mozambican cashew nut industry by harnessing global market demand for premium cashew and addressing obstacles throughout the value chain, including in the areas of production, inputs, processing, finance, and marketing.
