U.S. Embassy in Mozambique recruits business delegations for Trade Shows in the United States
Inauguration of the exhibition “Kinani through the lens”
This initiative is the result of a proposal by the photographer Yassmin Forte and a partnership between Camões - CCP Maputo and Yodine, a company that organizes the biennial contemporary dance festival Kinani.
Kinani through the lens takes place precisely in the month of the Maputo Dance Week, which will take place from September 18 to 22. This photographic show presents a set of photographs illustrating the course of the last 10 years of the renowned Kinani festival. This exhibition also intends to bring to the public of Maputo a debate about photography that is dedicated to the performing arts and to the different inherent criteria. Kinani through the lens is a collective exhibition with the participation of several Mozambican photographers, namely Adiodato Gomes, João Costa (Funcho), Emídio Josine, Mauro Vombe, Tomás Cumbana and Yassmin Forte and on this occasion will dedicate a tribute to Jorge Almeida, photographer and a university professor who passed away in 2013 while preparing an exhibition with the same theme.
The presentation of this show was not intended to be exhaustive or representative of the entire length of the Kinani international festival, but rather a symbolic reference of some of the players in the area and the dance circuit. It also aims to promote a reflection on this medium of artistic expression so well represented by Mozambique internally and in its diaspora.
The realization of the Kinani exhibition through the lens counted on the important support and research of the photographer Yassmin Forte and of Quito Tembe, founder of the Kinani festival project. During the preparation and production of this project, the generosity and availability of all participating photographers and, in the case of Jorge Almeida, the support of the family should be emphasized.
