Exhibition “Nimerudi” (“Regressei”) by Reinata Sadimba
The exhibition "Nimerudi" ("Regressei") by Reinata Sadimba is open to the public from 09:00am to 06:00pm (from Monday to Friday) at the Brazil-Mozambique Cutltural Centre in Maputo, with 30 works by the artist.
Sadimba is considered one of the most important women artists in the African continent. Born in Cabo Delgado, the daughter of peasants, she received traditional "makonde" education, which included the making of clay objects. In the 1970's, Reinata began a profound transformation in her pottery. It becomes known worldwide for the "strange and fantastic" forms. The artist's career went through a very productive stage during her exile in Tanzania, from 1980 to 1992. Since then, she has produced sculptures in Maputo in different phases .
Reinata has received numerous awards and has hels exhibitions in several various countries, including Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Denmark, Italy, South Africa and Tanzania. Her works are represented in several institutions, such as the Mozambican National Museum of Art and the Museum of Ethnology of Lisbon. They are also part of the Culturgest Collection of Modern Art [Portugal] and numerous private collections around the world.
